Dong Ding Oolong is one of Taiwan’s exquisite tea, the tea leaves originated from Mt. Dong Ding at Nantou County, Lugu Township. The unique climate and soil at Mt. Dong Ding led to the creation of an unique taste of the Dong Ding tea, well known across the world.

The unique feature of Dong Ding Oolong lies with it being completely hand picked. The chosen leaves are solely either one-tip two leaf or one-tip three-leaf. The completed tea leaves come in loose ball shape, dark green color, with its border edge in faint golden color.

I am a Taiwanese married to a Singaporean. After coming over to Singapore, the most common question I was asked was what is the most memorable thing in Taiwan? Apart from all kinds of delicious food, I was surprised Taiwan tea came to my mind! Pleasantly sweet and smooth taste are what sum up Taiwan Tea!

I used to be a person who rarely drink tea, but ever since drinking Dr. Chen’s tea, it completely changed my perspective! New NUS Research on Benefits of Tea

*NEW Findings*

For years, many research have been conducted to determine the benefits of tea drinking and till date, researches are unveiling new and more unknown facts to tea drinking. A recent research by NUS has revealed that:

“Tea drinking reduces the risk of cognitive impairment in older persons by 50 per cent and as much as 86 per cent for those who are genetically at risk of Alzheimer’s”

Tea is good for all ages and it is a joy to learn that it provides great benefit to our senior citizens. While there may not be a specific way to prevent any possible health problem but we are certain that there are ways to lighten the possibility of getting diagnosed with, in this case, cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s.

Why is Oolong Tea so precious?

Oolong tea is a semi-fermented tea. Oolong tea offers the sweetness & refreshing taste similar to Green Tea and dry & smooth taste resembling Black Tea. During the tea production process, the whole tea leaves structure are well preserved with a slight friction on the circumference of the tea leaves to allow partial oxidation. Visit to Tainan – An Introduction of Dr. Chen

Question 1: Is this an online retailer or is there a brick & mortar retail store in Singapore?

Dr. Chen’s Tea Singapore, the official registered company name, operates as an online retailer selling premium tea products through Facebook, Carousell & Shopee. While we are not excluding the plan to have an E-Commerce website or possibly a retail store, we will continue to sell our products through our current platforms so that you may continue to enjoy premium tea at wholesale prices.

Question 2: How many types of teas do you carry? 

As of now, we have 3 different types of tea bags & 3 different types of loose tea leaves. To better meet the needs of our customers, we will also be introducing new premium flavors in coming months and will keep everyone informed through Facebook.

The 3 types of tea bags currently available are Osmanthus Oolong, High Altitude (Lishan) Oolong & Roasted Aged Oolong while the 3 types of loose tea leaves currently available are Shanlinxi Jin Xuan Oolong, Alishan Oolong & Premium Aged Oolong.

Being a trusted brand for years, all Dr. Chen’s tea products undergo strict pesticides inspection – International Rapid Bioassay Pesticides Residues (RBPR) test before it is made available for sales.

RBPR test in a nutshell is basically an effective biochemical method determining the rate of enzymes activity which led to detecting the amount of organophosphorus and carbamates (the two main concerns/content found in pesticides) found in the product.

We are almost one month into our official date of incorporation on 4 Dec 2016! We are glad that we have garnered numerous likes as well as creating brand awareness of Dr. Chen’s premium tea products.

The Facts of Oolong Tea (In English & Chinese Version)

Now that everyone is aware of the goodness packed with drinking of traditional tea, so what makes oolong tea unique among the traditional tea family? Black tea (a.k.a Red tea in chinese) is 100% fermented, oolong tea is semi fermented and green tea is a non fermented tea. This makes oolong tea stands out from its family as it is packed with nutrients found in both black and green tea. Let us now take a closer look at the benefits of oolong tea in both English and Chinese version below:

1、Help to Lose Weight

Oolong tea contains lots of tea polyphenols which help reduce cholesterol, lower blood pressure and provide anti-oxidation, anti-aging and anti-cancer effects. Compared with black and green tea, oolong tea can not only reduce the absorption of carbohydrate and fatty foods, but also to promote fat burning, especially to reduce the accumulation of abdominal fat.

Japan has once conducted an experiment on water, green & oolong tea with regards to how it can help to improve the basic metabolic function of human body. The result was that water contains no special effects, while green tea was able to increase the metabolic function to burn 4 calories more per hour, and oolong tea, being the strongest, was able to increase the effect to 9 calories more per hour. In addition, this effect provided by oolong tea was able to last up to 5 hours, therefore, a cup of 300ml oolong tea, can help the body to burn up to 40 calories (equivalent to 15 mins of brisk walk or 10 mins of climbing up and down the staircase).

Using oolong tea for weight loss purposes, one cup of oolong tea is required before every 3 meals of a day. Hot oolong tea with no sugar added is highly recommended. Also, do not drink immediately after a meal, have at least 1 hour of allowance before consumption. During brewing, water temperature should be maintained at 80 to 90 degree Celsius; once brewed, tea should be consumed within 30 to 60 mins, otherwise, the nutrients in the tea will be oxidized.

1、幫助減肥

烏龍茶中含有大量的茶多酚，可以降低血液中的膽固醇含量，有降低血壓、抗氧化、防衰老和防癌等作用。而且烏龍茶和紅茶及綠茶相比，除了能夠減少糖類和脂肪類食物被吸收，還能夠促進脂肪燃燒，尤其是減少腹部脂肪的堆積。

日本曾對水、綠茶、烏龍茶進行提升基礎代謝功能的測試，結果發現水並無特殊功效，綠茶則1小時能提高4卡的代謝，而烏龍茶最多，能提高9卡的代謝！ 且烏龍茶的功效可延續5個小時，所以1杯300c.c.烏龍茶就能消耗40卡的熱量（相當於快走15分鐘、上下樓梯10分鐘）。
用烏龍茶減肥，三餐前後都要喝一杯。最好喝熱茶，不加糖。而且，不要飯後馬上喝，隔1小時左右比較恰當。泡茶時，水溫要控制在80℃~90℃左右；泡好的茶要在30~60分鐘內喝掉，否則茶裡的營養成分會被氧化。

2、Prevention against Tooth Decay

Oolong tea has anti tooth decay effect. The cause of tooth decay is due to bacterial invasion into the tooth tissue, which produces enzymes and when it comes into contact with the sugar contained in the food, a reaction will occur which eventually lead to tooth decay.

Oolong tea contains polyphenols that can inhibit the production of enzymes. Therefore, a cup of oolong tea after a meal, can prevent tooth decay.

2、預防蛀牙

烏龍茶有預防蛀牙的功效。蛀牙形成的原因是由於細菌侵入牙齒組織，而且在組織內產生引起蛀牙的酵素，這種酵素和食物中所含有的糖分起作用，產生蛀蝕牙齒的物質。這種可以蛀蝕牙齒的物質與細菌附著在牙齒上即形成齒垢，累積之後就會發生蛀牙現象。

烏龍茶中含有的多酚類具有能夠抑制齒垢酵素產生的功效，所以吃飯之後飲用一杯烏龍茶，可以防止齒垢和蛀牙的發生。

3、Anti-Aging Effect

Oolong tea contains the effect of promoting fats decomposition in the blood and is able to reduce the cholesterol content. A research conducted in 1994 on the effect of oolong tea has shown that oolong tea is exceptionally good for individuals with high blood lipids and high blood pressure. In addition, oolong tea contains vitamin C which promotes anti-aging effect. With sufficient daily intake of Vitamin C, drinking oolong tea can help maintain a high level of Vitamin C content in the blood while reducing the loss of Vitamin C content through urination.

On the other hand, oolong tea provides anti-tumor effect, improve the activation of lymphocytes and cells and strengthen immune system.

3、預防老化功效

烏龍茶具有促進分解血液中脂肪的功效，也能降低膽固醇的含量。國外一份1994年的烏龍茶功效實驗報告指出，烏龍茶對於高血脂和高血壓患者有相當好的療效。同時，烏龍茶有抗衰老的功效。維生素C具有抗衰老作用，在每日服用足夠份量維生素C情況下，飲用烏龍茶可以使血液中維生素C含量保持較高水平，尿液中維生素C排出量減少。

此外，烏龍茶也有抗腫瘤、提高淋巴細胞及細胞的活化作用，以及加強免疫功能、預防老化等作用。
